California considering an Animal Abuse Registry

Animal Abuse hurts more than just animals.

California animal activists are trying to get the California State legislature to pass legislation that would require anyone convicted of  felony animal abuse to register as abusers with the state. It will be much the same idea as convicted sexual offenders who must register as such with the state of California. The bill that was written by Democrat Dean Florez is simply titled “Animal Abuse Registry”. If passed, it would be the first of its kind in the United States.

This statement was issued by the Animal Legal Defense Fund who has been lobbying to get this new bill passed in California and hopes to get other states to follow that lead.

“The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) today announced an effort aimed at creating public registries in each state of anyone convicted of felony animal abuse. This could include violence (torture, mutilation, intentional killings, etc.), sexual abuse, and animal fighting as well as neglect (such as hoarding). Such registries would help protect animals, pet guardians and communities by preventing repeat offenses from anyone with an established history of abusing animals.”

The bill that was proposed by Mr. Florez would require those who must register as animal abusers to submit their photograph and personal information to their local police department. That information would go up on a website along with the info about what crime the offender committed.

Generation X is full of animal lovers, so I want to know, what do you think of this potential law? Is it ok to put someone’s personal information and photo on the internet for animal abuse? Is it a violation of their privacy, or is it a well deserved consequence for their actions? Let me know what you think and whether you would support this law in your state. I have listed a few other great pet examiner writers below that you should check out if you have the time!

I am for it. I just don't know id 1. California can afford it and 2. If it will really be implemented and monitored. It needs to be a program in more than name if it gets passed.

I like the idea. Violence and/or neglect is what it is. It doesn't matter if it's a pet or a person.

I heard about this and I do hope it passes. If someone can hurt and animal they are sick and cruel. I love the animals they are usually more loving than people. They don't deserve to be abused. I really hope this passes.

This site was created to be the "VOICE" for innocent registered cats & kittens who have
suffered at the hands of their own caretakers or owners.

The caretakers are the registered cat breeders who have absolutely no love or
compassion for the cats as a living, loving animals and pets.

Inhumane cat breeders view registered cats as PRODUCTS to be mass produced for profit.
Breeding is defined solely as a business. The more kittens produced, the greater the sales.
Therefore, for these cat breeders, quantity of cats & kittens is the goal — not quality or health of each animal’s life.

    Consumers are often unaware of:
    1. breeding conditions
    2. physical & psychological health issues and buy based on how cute the animal looks.

    - Our goal is to bring this information about inhumane cat breeding to the public so the potential
buyers can become informed about what is happening to our registered pedigreed cats, along
with the trusting buyers who have to horrible
burden of caring for sickly pets they purchased.
