Will Bret Michaels, the lead singer of Poison, be replacing Simon Cowell on American Idol next season? It’s definitely a possibility!

Bret Michaels made a spectacular surprise appearance on the American Idol finale, coming out on stage to sing “Every Rose has its Thorn” with former American Idol contestant Casey James. What we thought was a wonderful American Idol moment, and definitely the highlight of the evening, may have been the lead into something much bigger for Michaels on AI.

Bret Michaels apparently told some in the American Idol audience that he is being considered as a possible replacement for Simon Cowell. "I can't say this is true yet, cause I don't know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on 'American Idol,” said Michaels.

TMZ has reported that a source close to Bret Michaels confirms that Michaels is “in the running to replace Simon”, but nothing is set in stone. Fox has not commented on the speculation, but many American Idol fans would be thrilled to see Michaels step in as a full time judge on AI. Michaels has years of experience in the music industry and after starring in Rock of Love and Celebrity Apprentice, Michaels has become a popular guy once more.

Bret Michaels has overcome life threatening illness and has done so with a tremendous amount of heart. His fan base has exploded and he is well respected as a musician and as a person. American Idol needs the help. AI lost millions of viewers this year and may lose millions more without Simon Cowell on the judges panel. Bret Michaels could be the AI savior.

Do you think Michaels would be a good American Idol judge? Would his presence encourage you to watch the show or not make any difference to you? Comments welcome.

I think Michaels would be good in the "artist's" spot, replacing Cara or Randy, but I don't know if he has the (lack of?) heart to take on Simon's roll. Without that brutal honesty, the show just won't work.

I think it is a lovely idea! Bret is a really good guy and a great mentor.

I think he would be great--but I doubt he would be mean like Simon.

He'd be great for the show, but I agree that they should also have someone there with Simon's 'mean' personality in addition to Bret. Simon's comments were a huge part of AI...

It's nothing to do with honesty and meanness. Whoever replaces Cowell needs LONG experience as a record producer and an industry expert.

I don't know that man, I would like to see a contemporary articles, somebody that knows rap music because I find this genre though not everyone's cup of tea happens to be a what many young people want to hear.

I just can't see Bret Michaels being the Simon. I bet they end up going with Howard Stern, who I've heard rumored.

I don't know enough about his background to even have an opinion. I've lost interest in the show and he wouldn't be an incentive for me to watch. I phased out due to all of the goofiness of the judges, which others find is the entertaining part for them.

I think Bret Michaels would be an awesome choice. I lost a lot of interest in the show for the first time this year since season 2 and was not planning on watching it next year. If Bret is a judge on the show next year, I will definitely watch.

I think Bret would be an awesome judge and a great way to attract viewers. Look at the ratings his VH1 show got. He has the knowledge and a long standing career in music. I for one would love to see him in the judges chair!

Considerations about replacing Simon will undoubtedly include this question: "Who would draw the most viewers by being on the show?" That's who they will hire. Simon was controversial in his comments...people tuned in.
