On December 17th, Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) will host a press conference for media and the public to unveil the theme for this year's air show. Although performers will be added throughout the year, some preliminary information on performers will be provided. The show will take place from June 4th to the 5th on the airport grounds.
This year, the show will be headlined by the famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels along with multiple other military and civilian aircraft involved performing as in years past.
Residents who attend the press conference will have the ability to purchase tickets at a discount. As part of the second annual 'Stocking Stuffer' sale, adult tickets will be available for $4 (normally $15 at the gate) and children's tickets will be sold for $3 (normally $5). Normal admission prices have remained unchanged from last year.
The event will kick off June 4th with gates opening at 9 a.m. and performances starting at 11 a.m. and gates closing at 5 p.m. The times for Sunday the 5th will be the same as on the 4th. There will be multiple airplanes on static display allowing visitors to walk around, and occasionally in and through, various military and civilian aircraft. This year is expected to have more performers and static displays than 2010. In 2010, there were 7 military and 8 civilian performances and 20 aircraft on static display.
Also, Herb Hunter will be back in 2011 as the air show announcer for his sixth time in that role. Herb is a former military and airline pilot and is also known to some as the voice of both the Rockford and Chicago air shows.
