MyCube is a 'content-rich social network where you have complete control of your privacy and interactions'. There are a number of features expected out of MyCube that are worth taking a look at. Privacy, extreme control over who sees what, and as an added feature that I was surprised to learn about, content creation and selling control.
MyCube began their services with something called the Vault, a backup service that allows you to aggregate multiple social media outlets into a make backups off all the information. This allows you to know exactly what is out there on your sites, and to keep it all safe somewhere in case you need a backup because a site loses something.
From that area, they're branching out to creating what may very well be the next-gen social networking site. Some of the significant differences from other sites are:
- The ability to connect with friends, family, and colleagues, but also interest groups.
- The ability to create groups from your connections and then limit what each group sees from your posts. You'll be able to control what is seen by your general preferences and by individuals.
- A richer full media environment where you'll have access to articles, news, videos, music, and other digital content from other users. You'll be able to share your own creativity with interest groups as well.
- You'll own your content, and even better, you'll be able to sell your content. This is not a content-farm, but a meeting place where you can make connections and actually find an audience.
The site is expecting to go into online Private Beta testing in January. You can sign up now to request an invitation!

Nan, What is the current status of MyCube's launch as a social networking site and do you think it has a chance to give Facebook a run for its money?

I'm waiting to hear back from them on any ETA they might have for when they'll finally get invites out. I am excited to see how managing my privacy on MyCube compares with Facebook. I have concerns about how many social networking sites can truly be big at any given point, but plenty of people areready for something lighter and with less privacy concerns than Facebook to presente itself as a viable option. Here's hoping MyCube fulfills those wants!
"Emporers new clothes". A company with no product and a millionaire that wants to play with billionaires. This is going to be a social fail.
Wait until you hear how they are going to make money - they will target you with ads based on your interests of course (fact!).
@ Anonymous why is that so bad, is it not better than getting hit with ads that are totally irrelevant?
You seem not so happy about thier means of creating an income. Why is that and do you believe there is a better way?
I ask these questions with total sincerity.
