For actors, rehearsal is an integral part of the creative process, and now, thanks to David H. Lawrence, Rehearsal is also a new application for the IPhone.

David H. Lawrence XVII, is probably best known for playing the villainous 'Eric Doyle' on Heroes, but he can now add application designer to his growing list of credits.  After receiving a last minute audition for the NBC show "Community," David began working on an application that would help actors make the most of their limited preparation time.

He began collaborating with Brian Robbins, President and Founder of Riptide Games, in October and within a short period of time; a working beta version was being tested by actors like Dule Hill and John Carroll Lynch.

Rehearsal allows actors to learn their lines and explore character development through a variety of functions that include highlighting, vocal track recording and playback, beat markers, and several "comment" tools.  It will even allow voice talent to record and submit auditions directly from their IPhones.

Tremendous effort went into maintaining the security of scripts that are uploaded to the database.  Brian Robbins explains:  "When scripts go to the server, they are encrypted."  This process ensures secrecy for movies and television series concerned about spoilers getting leaked to the public.

For tech-savvy actors looking forward to the release of Apple's next must-have gadget, Brian was quick to add: "Rehearsal will work right out of the box with the IPad."

It was important to David that Rehearsal be "affordable for everybody."  Working actors can pay either by the month, year or script, depending on their audition needs, and as an added bonus, Rehearsal will be available at a special 50% off price point through March 31st.

"The biggest issue we've had is that people don't understand the synergies the app represents.  They've been downloading it, partially exploring it, and then dismissing it as a 'glorified PDF viewer' or a 'simple MP3 player," David says, adding:  "It's so much more than that.  It really does make it much easier for actors to explore their characters, memorize their lines and so much more."

Future updates will include Final Draft support and a function that will allow users to group scenes together by shooting schedule.  To learn more about Rehearsal, please click here.

All actors have their own way of memorizing lines...this app. could give them a leg-up on changing to a more 'technical' method. Time will tell.
