While some may call New Jersey out for its traffic-laden roadways, built-up suburbs and lingering chemical aromas, there are tons of great places to visit in Central NJ during the spring.  Finding places where you and your partner can relax and take in the beauty of nature can be challenging, but rest assured, they do exist!

Here are ten of the best places to spend a spring afternoon with your partner in Central NJ.

1. Belmar Beachfront - Before the Jersey Shore starts bustling, soak in a warm spring day in Belmar.  Walk along the sandy beach, stroll the quaint downtown or fly a kite along a cool breeze.

2. Downtown Metuchen - Metuchen is one of the cutest little towns in the area, and though it doesn't boast as many shops as some of its counterparts, it still has a lot to offer.  Meander along Main Street and stop by What's the Scoop? before relaxing for an hour or two in sunny Thomas Park on Lake Ave.

3. Bridge Street, Lambertville - During the spring, there are numerous art festivals and celebrations in this adorable border town.  Enjoy a fine meal before perusing the town in search of new and exciting artwork for your abode.

4. Princeton University - You don't have to be an academic to enjoy the quiet tranquility of Princeton's grounds. Gaze on the elaborate stone architecture and mingle with the trendy students.

5. Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park - This long park runs along western NJ and offers great hiking and canoeing.  If you love the outdoors, take your partner by the hand and spend the day enjoying the bounties of nature.

6. Sourland Mountain - Perhaps you'd rather stay away from the water.  If so, take a leisurely hike through Sourland Mountain preserve.  Don't forget your binoculars: this is a great place to watch the birds.

7. The Turtle Back Zoo - You don't have to be a child to enjoy the zoo!  This lovely preserve houses an excellent selection of wildlife.  Travel the world without leaving NJ, and be sure to take a train ride while you're there (trust me, it's a blast!).

8. Historic Morristown - Great for any spring, summer or fall day, Morristown is a hub of history.  Stop in a museum or preserved building for a tour, and visit the battlefields and preserved farmland for a gentle stroll.

9. Allaire State Park - Near the coast, this great state park offers windy (though relatively flat) trails.  Keep an eye out for amazing festivals and other seasonal treats!

10. The Pinelands - If you'd like to head south, take a drive with the windows down through the Pinelands.  Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the quiet serenity.  Stop for some breathtaking photos of nature at its best--but just don't let the Jersey Devil catch you!
