It would seem that the new accessory in Hollywood, and even out in suburban high schools is Bisexuality. Lady GaGa says she is, Megan Fox says she is, and until everyone stopped caring, Lindsay Lohan was too. While there are not nearly as many famous men out there who cop to having given guys a try, one assumes that they have to be out there as well. For those of us with a celebrity crush, this is more fantasy fodder than anything else, but how well does being Bisexual translate to a relationship?
One of the first assumptions that the less accepting members of society make about people who identify as being Bisexual is that they are only on a greedy stop to being fully gay. This is to say that, because they identify their sexuality as being inclusive (or in many cases do not identify their sexuality as being exclusive), they are somehow more inclined to be promiscuous, or to engage in a proper relationship. And for this reason, there are plenty of gay men who avoid it all together.
But in what way is this beneficial?
To sign off from being together simply because one partner is Bisexual is an awfully hurtful way of denying oneself and someone else a shot at love. Fact is, after countless Google searches and Wikipedia reads, there doesn't seem to be any real evidence that people who are bisexual have anymore inclination to stray...not more than anyone else, anyway.
And maybe there's something to be learned from these gender-blind friends of ours. Not necessarily that we'll all one day end up pan-sexual or anything, but the least we can do as gay people is not subject one another to the same scrutiny we try to avoid. And there's certainly no reason to deny someone the chance to be the right guy for you. It's like being a different race or religion.
If it's too much of a problem, then maybe the problem is you.
