Latest on Gay bird parents
In our continuing effort to keep our readers apprised of all the current Gay Parent Bird news, we are happy to report that Z and Vielpunkt, two well-known gay male Humboldt penguins in the Bremerhaven Zoo in Germany are successfully raising an adopted chick together.
When the egg's heterosexual parents threw it out of their nest, the zookeepers put it in Z and Vielpunkt's nest. They faithfully cared for it for over a month until it hatched. (This sounds oddly similar to many of my friends' stories.) Anyone who has watched March of the Penguins knows how hard Z and Vielplunkt had to work to get that egg to hatch. Since then, they have been feeding it delicious fish mash and otherwise caring for it lovingly. Dads and chick are all thriving.
The zoo veterinarian says, "Homosexuality is nothing unusual among animals. Sex and coupling up in our world do not necessarily have anything to do with reproduction."
In addition to pioneering an alternative family structure, the family is doing its part to replenish the world's dwindling numbers of Humboldt penguins, a threatened species that lives on the coast of Chile and Peru.

Greetings from the Denver City Buzz Examiner. Although I am not gay, I have a cousin and the girl I had a crush on throughout my youth turned out to be gay, I think that this story will do much towards causing society to see that homosexuality is not either a choice or a moral shortcoming, that it is in fact a "normal" part of all animal life and not uniquely human, similar to being left-handed.
Right-on Richard. And it sounds like the gay penguins are a great example of true "family values" in action!
Ha.....My neutered male dog tries to hump my leg. Does that mean he has a thing for humans? No...that means he's stupid.....and so are penguins. Gays will jump through hoops to justify their nonsense.
I believe animals and humans are nurturing and loving and have never found gender a requirement for either. We had 2 kittens "dropped off" at our doorstep who were too young to leave their Mom but found comfort "nursing" and cuddling on TC, the biggest, baddest cat around! And 5 years later all 3 are still very close :-)
to cjb: I think you missed the point of the story. It's not about justifying anything, it's about learning about nature.
