Cologne, Germany - It is uplifting. It is inspiring. The 2010 Gay Games announced today that multi-platinum recording artist Taylor Dayne will sing a new Gay Games song created for the 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. Dayne will perform “Facing a Miracle” at the opening ceremony on July 31 in the RheinEnergie Stadium. The new track was selected from entries submitted from around the world and written by a team from Sweden and The Netherlands, whose pedigree includes chart toppers and platinum records in USA, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 has also released the song on YouTube.com and will make the song available on iTunes for sale (proceeds to benefit the Gay Games).
Taylor Dayne
Taylor Dayne is an American pop icon who has sold more than 75 million albums and singles worldwide. She has had 12 Billboard® top twenty songs, twp Grammy® nominations and an American Music Award nomination. Her first single, “Tell it to My Heart,” appeared on the Hot 100 chart for 26 weeks and earned Dayne a Grammy® Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance. Dayne top singles include “Love Will Lead You,” “Prove Your Love,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Though well known for her work in the 1990s, she continues to have a robust career having recorded songs for the soundtracks of Flawless (2000), Circuit (2002), and Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) and writing the hit “Whatever You Want” for Tina Turner. Her most recent album, Satisfied, dropped in 2008 to critical acclaim. Dayne continues to perform around the world.
For years, Dayne has been a supporter of gay and lesbian rights, often agreeing to perform at annual LGBT pride festivals, helping to make her a figure with great relevance and social significance within the LGBT community. According to Dayne, “My gay audience and followers are the most loyal and the most fun to perform for." Contest Winner
“Facing a Miracle” was written by a team of composers from Sweden and The Netherlands; Peter Hägeras, Bruce R.F. Smith, Dan Sundquist and Ralph van Manen. The song writers won the international composer competition of the 2010 Gay Games judged by a team of jurors in search of an anthem for the 2010 Gay Games.
Dan Sundquist, one of Sweden’s best known song writers and music producers, has produced more than 60 albums over the past three decades, along the way winning seven Swedish Grammys®. For the annual Eurovision Song Contest Sundquist has contributed two national winning titles for Sweden and Norway. Bruce R.F.Smith is an acclaimed musician who, among other works, wrote the song “Engel Van Mijn Hart,” sung by Dutchman Gerard Joling, and which received the Golden Harp Award, awarded annually to Dutch musicians. Ralph van Manen’s wrote the hit “Testify to Love,” recorded by Wynonna Judd for the TV show “Touched by an Angel” and which reached platinum status in the USA. Peter Hägeras, has worked with numerous artists, including Kayo, the Swedish singer who represented her country in 2002 at the Eurovision Song Contest, with her group Afro-dite.
