Ani Di Franco, in concert, January 2008
Lesbians love chicks with guitars, whether they are angry chicks, hippie chicks, rocker chicks or philosophical chicks with a message. There’s simply something enticing about female vocals with a groovy guitar riff in the background. Once we have embraced an artist, we are doggedly loyal and they are added permanently to the lesbian lexicon of iconic musicians.
However, I have to make a confession. Most of the artists on the playlist above aren’t likely to make the frequent rotation on ITunes. Whereas I can appreciate certain songs by Ani diFranco and Tracy Chapman, most of the others make me twitch convulsively. Given that I reside at the epicenter of Indigo Girl influence, that admission could get my lesbian license revoked.
I, too, like chicks with guitars, but I have wandered outside the lesbian standards to find my favorites. I am always looking for more if you have any suggestions.
