Gov. Sarah Palin: Pretty, and pretty anti-gay. A winning combination for McCain?

Ok, so it's obvious what McCain's trying to accomplish by naming Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate.

She's young and attractive and that's supposed to balance out him being so old and doddery.

But something about her sexy librarian look just bugs me.

Like she's just dying to let her hair down and whip off those glasses. Plus, HRC says she's pretty anti-gay.

Pretty, and pretty anti-gay.

Could it be a winning combination for McCain?

Here's what HRC has to say:

Today, presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Senator John McCain announced he has chosen first term Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his choice to be his Vice Presidential running mate. Although only holding an executive, state-wide office for less than two years, Gov. Palin has already shown that she is a fierce opponent of equality.
“America may not know much about Sarah Palin, but based on what our community has seen of her, we know enough,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “Sarah Palin not only supported the 1998 Alaska constitutional amendment banning marriage equality but, in her less than two years as Governor, even expressed the extreme position of supporting stripping away domestic partner benefits for state workers. When you can’t even support giving our community the rights to health insurance and pension benefits, it’s a frightening window into where she stands on equality.”
When asked about the right-wing’s reaction to the choice of Gov Palin, the New York Times quoted Ralph Reed, the former head of the Christian Coalition as saying, “They’re beyond ecstatic”.

Highlights of Governor Palin’s Anti-Equality Record:
Prior to being elected governor, Palin supported the 1998 constitutional amendment barring marriage for same-sex couples and has said she would support a ballot measure overturning a state supreme court decision mandating benefits for domestic partners of state employees
She is close to “traditional values” groups, like Family Research Council, because she is strongly anti-choice Marriage and Relationship Recognition

Palin told the Anchorage Daily News that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment on marriage.
In addition, she told the Daily News that she would support a ballot question that would deny benefits to the domestic partners of public employees, which were ordered by an October 2005 decision of the Alaska Supreme Court, because, she said “honoring the family structure is that important."
While she followed the Court’s decision and he also signed legislation –her first legislative act as Governor of Alaska—to put the issue on the April 2007 ballot for a nonbinding advisory vote. This was the only issue on the ballot and that election cost the state taxpayers $1.2 million. This measure passed, but the legislature did not follow the public’s advice and it chose not to take any further action to overturn the court’s decision. · She did, however, veto legislation passed by the state legislature in 2006 that would have prohibited providing DP benefits to state workers, in defiance of the Alaska Supreme Court’s ruling. She did this after the Supreme Court had already ruled and the Attorney General (Republican) advised her that the legislation was unconstitutional. Palin went on to state that, as a matter of policy, she was in favor of the bill. Ties to Anti-LGBT Groups
She will be honored alongside anti-gay Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) at an event at the 2008 Republican Convention, the “Life of the Party,” sponsored in part by long-time opponent of GLBT rights, Phyllis Schlafly.

She hates wolves too. She is a radical right wing, gun toting, lifetime member of the NRA. She has not only supported aerial killing of magnificent wolves, she has promoted it with a high priced PR campaign!

Unbelievably bad choice of McCain! He must be getting senile to nominate her!

Here's what she supports: You have to watch the entire video -- it's short.

Just this morning I read Wikipedia about Sarah Palin and there was an excerpt about her lesbian relationship long ago with K.D. Lang, that they planned to run off to France. Others read this. I posted it and someone warned not to use Wikipedia, then someone warned to read another comment and that comment stated that National Radio Broadcasting stated Palin was scrubbing some websites including Wikipedia. Sure enough, within an hour of reading it, that statement is gone!

I remember Radio Free Europe and this gives me the willies. What kind of country is this anymore?

Firstly, you have to realize that she was representing ALASKA, which is not known for its progressivism. Men hunt animals there, not other men. Therefore, it is only logical for her interests to coincide with those of most of the state. (DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT AGREEING WITH HER POSITIONS, MERELY CLARIFYING THEM). You may also recall the liberal bloggers' outrageous creation of the baby scandal, that newborn Trig was in fact her 17-year old daughter's child. You can't believe hardly anything the media (Wikipedia included) says, as it is simply sensationalizing everything to sell stories. I was in Alaska when her pregnancy came to light; it was in all the newspapers.

More significantly, McCain chose Palin to court the disaffected Hilary League of Women Voters and to reinstate his position as a maverick of Washington by enlisting someone so outside that narrow (possibly inbred) stream of zombie politicians. Doesn't his strategy make sense?
(DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT JUSTIFYING OR GLORIFYING MCCAIN)

Furthermore, it is helpful to view Alaska as a sort of red-headed territorial stepchild; in fact, America only purchased to keep the Russians from setting up spy bases and launch pads. We as Americans really only want Alaska's resources, especially its little bitty pockets of oil that the Saudis could absorb with their monumental reserves.

And Barb, for you to include the aerial wolf hunting bit is somewhat extraneous. That issue is rife with its own problems, much less an "outsider" coming in and presuming to know everything about game management. What do you do when your predecessors have plundered the animal populations so that you have to resort to keeping a too-quickly-growing wolf population to keep moose calves alive? As gruesome as it sounds, aerial killing is preferable to painful, slow-death traps. Here's an idea, Barb, Alaska will send you its extra wolves, so you can deal with that "magnificent" problem.

Okay, sorry, I was really getting into it there. Alaska has veritable pindrops for oil while Saudi Arabia has the world's largest proven oil fields. Cripes, nobody knows how much oil is in Alaska and whether it's cost-effective to drill and create yet another Superfund site. (Forgive me, Barb, I can see how you drifted.)

And I'm pretty sure everyone had an affair with KD Lang. I did. We ran off to Alaska.

"PRAY AWAY GAYS?" ARE YOU THAT IGNORANT?

Sarah Palin's views on homsexuality are offensive. US citizens were gaining awareness and moving in a direction of acceptance.Truth is, no one, not even Sarah Palin can explain where homosexuality stems from. With that in mind, if it is derived from parental, environmental or genetic influences, how can one be "transformed" later in life? If one could prove these natural emotions were a result of human biology, Sarah Palin's theory to "transform" insinuates she can override genetics. Otherwise, her logic blames society for the outcome, not individuals. Therefore, her solution suggests, "fixing" problems caused by those who created them.

I wonder if she had a gay, bi-sexual or bi-curious child, if they too would be enrolled in her "school of conversion?"

    America represents freedom.
Marriage is not a luxury-It is a human right.

As a woman, in particular, she should understand discrimination and fight for equality in this country.

Her glasses are as transparent as her lack of international foreign policy experience and human compassion.
