Ron Huberman and friends at Chicago House "Champagne Wrapture" holiday gala.
Ron Huberman, Mayor Daley's golden child, come out of the closet in a Sun-Times interview yesterday.
Huberman was most recently appointed president of the CTA after he had been Mayor Daley's Chief of Staff for two years. Prior to that he was a police officer and was instrumental in creating new database technologies that allowed the police department to work in ways it had never done in the past.
Huberman has been officially appointed as CEO of the Chicago Public School system after Arne Duncan was made Secretary of Education by President Obama.
In the interview, Huberman officially came out of the closet:
At 15, while attending Lyons Township High School, Huberman made a declaration that, at first, was difficult for his parents to accept: He's gay.
"It's always difficult for kids. It was difficult for my parents at first. But they've become very accepting and very supportive," said Huberman, who lives with a partner who's a friend from college. They reconnected four years ago.
"It has given me a great sensitivity for the need to be inclusive. If I didn't grow up being part of a group that was viewed differently, I may not have that sensitivity. It makes me in tune to individuals, groups and others who are not fitting in and may need extra support."
Although Huberman has been effective in his prior posts, there are some complaining that he doesn't have an education background and therefore won't be able to effectively manage the third-largest public school system in the US.
Perhaps this is the Change that we need.

Rob Huberman didn't "come out of the closet" in the Sun-Times interview. He has been openly gay for years.
We needn't refuse to say being gay or lesbian. We need to face the real of us. "I can say i am a bisexual proudly and loudly to others" often said by my bisexual friends knew at Bimingle.com . Happinesass is not only belongs to you straight people but also to us LGBT. So do it proudly.
Wow! I was shocked but at the same time, I open minded about this I still think he is a good looking guy.
