Howard Brown Health Center announced late last month that it will host Night of the Fallen Stars: a celebration of Chicago’s Transgender community from 7-9 p.m. on November 16th at Center On Halsted.
Following is information taken from their release:
The event, hosted by Howard Brown Health Center’s Broadway Youth Center, Center on Halsted and Illinois Gender Advocates, celebrates and unites Chicago’s transgender community and memorializes the lives that have been lost in gender-focused hate crimes.
Night of the Fallen Stars immediately follows the Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil, which will be held at 5:00 p.m. on November 16 at Center on Halsted. The Transgender Day of Remembrance memorializes those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice, and honors Rita Hester, whose murder in 1998—like most anti-transgender murder cases—has yet to be solved.
"This is a very exciting time for trans people throughout Chicago,” stated Casey Schwartz, Transgender Youth Specialist at Howard Brown’s Broadway Youth Center. “Transgender people are increasingly more visible within the community at large. Night of the Fallen Stars is a celebration of this inclusion and a showcase for the many talents in our community.”
