Perez Hilton: The unsympathetic victim

Perez Hilton

Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton has managed to do the nearly impossible. It's very difficult for someone to get beat up in public and yet inspire no sympathy whatsoever. Somehow, Hilton has pulled it off.

As reported yesterday, Hilton got into a scuffle with a member of the Black Eyed Peas' entourage in Toronto over the weekend. He ended up getting physically assaulted and filing a police report. Polo Molina, the manager of Black Eyed Peas' frontman will.i.am, was later charged in the assault.

But it has now been revealed that Hilton ignited the incident by calling will.i.am a faggot. This little revelation doesn't justify Hilton getting decked, but it does make it almost impossible to feel sorry for the guy.

"I would just hope people know how difficult it is to intellectualize a situation and think rationally when a thug disguised as a musician is screaming at your face and intimidating you," Hilton said in a statement, as a way of explaining his choice of words.

Hilton has often tried to portray himself as a gay rights advocate, most recently during the Miss USA brouhaha where he asked Carrie Prejean for her opinion on gay marriage. Before he became a celebrity blogger, he even worked for gay media watchdog GLAAD. But you seriously have to wonder about any gay man who would think to use that particular word to attack someone else. It's unacceptable and Hilton knows that.

For their part, GLAAD has issued a statement asking Hilton to apologize for the slur. I would also suggest that Hilton might consider apologizing for calling will.i.am a "thug disguised as a musician" too, but that's a column for another day. Hilton responded back by saying GLAAD should apologize to him.

"I am saddened GLAAD chose to victimize me further by criticizing me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent," Hilton said in a statement to TMZ.

Judging by the comments on various message boards over the last couple of days, it seems like the majority of people aren't willing to accept Hilton as a victim in this situation. He didn't deserve to get punched, but he also had no business tossing off gay slurs.

It seems like Hilton himself committed a crime by publicly using hate speech in Canada:

I think his true self is appearing and it's not very pretty. Neither is his black & blue eye and pink hair.

Perez Hilton whole heatedly deserved to have his ass handed to him. He defames every celebrity in some capacity. His website should be boycotted. This is what he wrote about Michael Jackson before he died. twitpic.com/8et2f
