The official time for the Vernal Equinox 2010 was at 1:32 p.m. on Saturday; it's Springtime! Spring is the season when a resurrection takes place and life awakens with a promise of renewal. Across half of the earth, millions of bird eggs lie hidden in trees and shrubs. Animals have begun to come out of hibernation; birds navigate back to their old neighborhoods; and insects labor to clear tunnels and nests in order to make their first appearance. The ground has thawed, so put the snow shovels and rock salt away and take a walk around the garden; wonderful surprises are emerging from beneath the soil.
Here in Philadelphia, the first blooms of galanthus, hellebore, and pansies have appeared; as well as, forsythia, witchhazel, crocus, Siberian squill, and chionodoxa. Lawns are beginning to green up, and emerging with them are the spears of daffodil leaves and fat daffodil buds that are opening today. Johnny-jump-ups, columbine, mountain pinks, candytuft, alyssum, bleeding hearts, dianthus, peonies, brunnera and pulmonaria will be the next perennials to bloom.
Open the windows and breathe in the fresh air! It’s springtime, a time for new birth, new beginnings, and starting over. God has given the earth another new year to bloom, and he has given us a brand new chance to bloom as well. Bloom wherever you're planted! It’s time to wake up and grow!
