Friday plant of the week - a day late

Cacti and succulent Impresario Guru Irwin Lightstone wowed the Forest Hills Garden Club girls during their November meeting at master gardener Katrina’s home last night.  Guru Lightstone explained, demonstrated and shared tips on growing and caring for the exotic plants while passing out his own beautiful succulents for the girls to touch, taste and tear a little sampling.

Guru Lightstone made a special effort to explain the dangers of growing cacti when he accidently pricked his finger and apologized profusely as blood spurted on Katrina’s very expensive persian rug; proof of their danger.  Mr. Lightstone also pointed out how sometimes cacti can take on the appearance of their owner as shown in the newly named species “Donald Trump’s Hair” succulent.  The garden club girls were so bedazzled by Mr. Lightstone’s talk some even stopped eating Katrina and Shelly’s delicious treats.  Truly a rare occurrence.  The girls continued to sip wine, knowing this makes for more interesting questions and ribald comments.

The Forest Hills Garden Club boasts an eclectic group of neighbors and friends that includes serious gardeners, wanna be gardeners and those few pretending - just to be included in the group.  Write a comment at the bottom of the article if you are interested in joining.  No qualifications or knowledge required.

This reporter is headed to Las Vegas for a week to cover the International Amusement Park Convention and Trade Show.   Hopefully there will be time for a daily garden humor report from the convention floor?  Don't touch that dial.
