Playstation network still costs nada

Photo courtesey Sony

OK, todays article might not be the craziest news ever, but I still thought it was noteworthy.

At a recent Sony conference an image from a presentation found its way to the Internet (of course), and caused a lot of panic. The image was showing the advantages of PS network and one line stated; "new revenue stream from subscription". This astonishingly created a negative buzz.

According to G4 Sony's president Kaz Hirai had to go public and issue a statement which, to sum it up, calmed everyone down and assured them Sony had no intentions of charging for the standard online service for PS3 gamers to play with their friend, however they do plan on offering additional features for those who want to actually pay for "premium" services.

Stephen Johnson of G4 made an outstanding point by asking what kinds of things the public would be willing to pay for. I think Stephen and I are on the same page with this one. It might be an extra revenue source for Sony, but is the juice really worth the squeeze?
