Mirrodin Besieged Tezzeret Spoiler Image Surfaces

Planeswalkers have become the hottest card type in Magic: the Gathering and new ones, along with new iterations of already existing ones, are big news to players.

An image has surfaced on the web of what could be the next incarnation of Tezzeret the Seeker, first seen in Shards of Alara and recently was reprinted in the Elspeth Vs. Tezzeret Duel Deck.  It would make sense for Tezzeret to show his power-hungry face on the artifact plane Mirrodin, as his original abilities were all artifact based, and in general there was a sense of surprise in the internet Magic community when he wasn't in Scars of Mirrodin.  Whether he shows up in Mirrodin Besieged, or the yet-to-be-named third block of the Scars of Mirrodin set, is still unknown.  It is assumable, however, that his abilities will still involve artifacts.

Looking at the spoiled image though, it is fairly apparent that he will no longer be a mono-Blue planeswalker.  Based on the storyline behind the card game, Tezzeret became a servant of the older planeswalker Nicol Bolas, who in the game is a Blue/Black/Red card.  Sarkhan Vol, who was originally Red/Green, became Red/Black following his association in the story with Nicol Bolas.  So what will Tezzeret be?  Blue/Black?  Blue/Red?  All three?  Either of the first options are likely, with my guess being Blue/Black, simply because Scars of Mirrodin introduced Koth of the Hammer, an exceptionally powerful Red planeswalker.  Blue/Red would be an interesting possibility because there are enemy-colored fetch lands, Scalding Tarn for instance, currently in Standard, but not much reason to run enemy-colored decks.

Three colors is the least likely of the options.  Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker was too overcosted for competitive play, which Wizards of the Coast seems to want planeswalkers to be, and to have a three color mana cost and keep it within the converted mana cost that seems playable in tournaments (4-5), Tezzeret's cost would have to be RUB1 or RUB2, neither of which seems likely.  In addition, Standard doesn't have much manabase support for running more than two colors currently, and unless his abilities were excessively powerful, I don't see him being the sole reason to make a dedicated three color deck, when there are so many other viable options in Standard to run two, or even one, color decks.

Of course, everything is pure speculation until much closer to the release date of February 4 for Mirrodin Besieged.

Ya, I was thinking that it was more likely (just looking at the art) that he would be R/U. But after you made the point about Koth, it made more sense for him to be U/B. I can't wait until they have a Planeswalker for every color combination!

I would lead towards red/black myself. In the most recent novel when tezzeret was in ponderance before the great sphinx on the beach he took a needle made of sangrite and stuck himself and basically his arm turned to fire. Consequently the sangrite infused needle also summoned bolas and so the story begins. Sangrite is petrified dragons blood and one of the two needed ingredients needed to forge etherium. Etherium is a substance that channels infinite power from outside the universe. I can't see blue being a factor here, especially since jace 2.0 is basically the bluest bomb ever! Black/Red seems more appropriate in order to add balance to a shifting metagame that is heavy in control. Only time will tell, until then we just must geek at the possibilities!

Towards the bottom, we see Tezzeret being overwhelmed by phyrexians. I suggest that he will be 2UB and will have a sacrifice or infecting influence.

in the story he infuses himself with sangrite and becomes etherium. his abilities must still involve artifacts, he is still an artificer, but the sangrite gives him interesting power for a short while. he was shooting white lightning, not a very blue artificer type of magic. he has been influenced by bolas, so im thinking UR or RB, but definitely red.
