Geek culture is on the rise and the Seattle area is a globally recognized hotbed of geek activity. Whether it's the HazardFactory building Nerfgun Anti-Zombie Flamethrowers, Hackerbot Labs dramatically shrinking coins in 30 to 40 microseconds with vast amounts of electricity vaporizing copper coils in the process, or the local Steampunk social circles, it seems like you can't swing a flaming tetherball in this town without hitting geeks following their passions.
Style is a crucial element in geek culture as the visible expression of a person's uniqueness and of the things they genuinely value in their lives. For the geek, style is not an affectation adopted by hipsters trying to be "in." It is honest and intensely personal.
When it comes to the Ultimate Geek Accessory, there are many contenders for the crown; when I bestow this title, I don't do it lightly. The Gear Ring is the reigning champion by knock-out. A brilliant combination of form and function that elevates both to a new pinnacle of design, the Gear Ring is simply elegant. I ordered mine the moment I saw it.
Inspired by some of the designs coming out of Diesel, Glen Liberman decided he wanted to try and take the aesthetic to the next level. By adding enough complex functionality that people will want to play with the product in addition to just wearing it, he set out to create two products in one that exist side by side in a complementary way. Something that had small mechanisms and would offer universal appeal and an active experience instead of a passive one. The Gear Ring is the result of a long year of sustained effort by Glen and his associates.
Kinekt Design launched in January this year in the NYC area with a mission to deliver forward-thinking design objects and products that fuse together a modern aesthetic with tangible interaction. Glen calls this concept "physical interaction design," the idea being that adding the element of physical manipulation allows regular objects to take on new meaning.
The response from the global market to this product has been overwhelmingly positive. The personal response I've gotten wearing it has been universally positive. Everyone seems to love this ring and it's easy to see why. As cool as the ring looks in this video, it is even better in person.
Available now online from Kinekt Design in whole sizes 9, 10, 11, and 12 for $165 with free worldwide shipping and a lifetime warranty. Nice touch. Retail outlets coming soon.

Wow, this is way cool, just unbelieveable and a lifetime warranty to boot. I'm going to the web site and check it out to see if they have any other neat things like bracelets, etc. The possibilities are endless. Thanks for the informative article. I've read all of them you have posted and they are excellent. Keep up the good work.
I purchased one of these rings. It's nicely made and I really like it. However, it doesn't fit. The company told me that I could hold on to it while they needed 4-6 weeks to get larger sizes in stock. It's now well past that wait. What's more, they don't answer my calls or emails. The warranty is useless if they won't talk with the customer or issue an RMA within the first 30 days. I called within 24 hours of receiving my ring to let them know the ring didn't fit. I couldn't return it without their RMA. Something very questionable is going on in Kinekt Design.
Thats funny. I purchased from them and the service was great and they were very responsive. Are you sure you have the correct phone number for them. The back order was probably due to demand.
i bought the ring a two days later it broke,
screw these people i'm getting my money back
