Of the top 20 most sought after consumer electronics products online this holiday season, 20 percent are Garmin GPS navigation systems and nearly one-third bear the brand name Apple.
Such are the nuggets of information gleaned from a survey of online consumer products searches called "The Active Shopper Report" from Permuto, an online advertising network provider.
Most of the hot selling Apple products are variations of the iPod music player: the iPod Nano 8GB, 4th generation (#7 on the Top 20); iPod Touch 8GB (#10); Apple Macbook notebook computer (#11); iPod Touch 16GB (#12); iPod Touch 32GB (#15); and the the 3rd generation iPod Nano 4GB (#16).
Garmin held the number 3, 5, 8 and 18 positions with variations of its Nuvi line of GPS navigation systems.
Topping the list is the Nintendo Wii game console, whose strong demand is indicative of another online trend -- customers are shopping online for discounts. The Active Shopper Report noted that buyers of the Wii were enjoying average 22 percent discounts in the purchase price, compared to a year ago, the deepest of any product.
