Hopefully it doesn't ship with Windows Mobile 6.1
There has been a lot, and that is no exaggeration, of news lately about HTC phone’s coming to the United States. First it was the announcement that HTC was bring their Touch Pro2 to T-Mobile on August 12th which is approaching very quickly.
Next it was revealed that their Hero is more than likely showing up on Sprint at some point this year. And now, finally some news on their other phone coming to the U.S. and from the specs, it looks like it is going to be absolutely phenomenal.
Well, except for one small problem.
Before we get to that though, let’s look at the awesome specifications on the phone. Verizon also apparently upgraded the design of the Diamond2 since it was last seen in the wild.
Alright, alright, the specs.
The big news is that it is getting a 3.6 inch WVGA touch screen. It also is going to feature Qualcomm 7600 at 528MHz, 512MB ROM/256MB RAM, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with anti-handshaking, gpsOne (aGPS and full GPS) and it’s going to be a GSM/CDMA world phone.
Ok, so that all looks fine and dandy, but there is one glaring problem that Gizmodo and WMExperts (and I) both have and that is that the Diamond2 will apparently be shipping with Windows Mobile 6.1 instead of WinMo 6.5.
This could completely turn people off to this great phone. WinMo is good but not as good as webOS, Android or the iPhone OS.
If this doesn’t ship with 6.5, which is supposed to come out right around the time the Diamond2 is, are these specs going to be enough to convince people to grab the phone?
We’ll see.

Last rumor I heard was that the upgrade to WinMo 6.5 for the HTC phones would be included once 6.5 is released. Should HTC hold off releasing the phone until 6.5 is released? I like the plan of letting us have then phone and we can upgrade later.
It would only be an upgrade if they put Android on...as they should have done from the beginning. Microsoft sucks the big one!!!
Good point. Looks like Verizon is currently building inventory for a near term release. Waiting for WM 6.5 would delay the phones by a month or more. As long as they have upgraded the phone, they should also build for compatibility for an upgrade to WM 7.0
touch dimond2 will come out with wm 6.1 but i bet when wm 6.5 comes out they will automatically upgrade them because that's what they did with the vx6900 when it 1st came out it had 6.0 then 6.1 came out and they just shipped them out with 6.1 no need to upgrade. it also took a while before vzw did that
What does the new design look like? Is it different than the picture shown?
Got something to say?
