Tiny robot firefighter will help save lives

It’s no secret that robots are starting to do a lot of the grunt work that we humans used to do and one day in the future, they may just take over all of the dangerous jobs the world has to offer.

That or completely destroy their masters.

Remember the robot that can jump over 25 foot tall barriers? Or how about the one that solves sudoku? Yeah, that’s not scary or anything. This robot though is much different. CNET has featured a robot being developed by the South Korean company Hoya Robot that will act as a mini firefighter that is able to enter buildings to search for trapped people and to scout for firefighters outside the building.

It can withstand temperatures up to 320 degrees Fahrenheit, fall six feet and survive; its model is water resistant, weighs only three pounds and best yet, can fit in the palm of a human hand. That’s just the beginning.

When sent into a burning structure, it transmits data to whoever is controlling it. Rolling right into the flames, it gives off information about temperature, sound, amount of smoke, gas, as well as transmitting photos to firefighters half a football field away.

That’s about 50 yards for you non-Americans out there.

Here is an in-action video of the robot.

So, maybe somewhere down the road, the jumping robot will combine with the fireproof robot and the sudoku robot.

Robotics is great, but boy, is this getting a little scary.
