Taking over the world one iPhone at a time.
Well, if you had no idea before, Apple is making a lot of money. Apparently, its earnings and revenue are such that its third quarter, coming amidst the country’s recession, is the highest grossing non-holiday quarter for the company ever.
Pretty impressive.
What’s actually more impressive are the numbers. We here in the States are facing the worst economic turmoil since the Great Depression and still, Apple was able to pull in $8.34 billion dollars in revenue and a third quarter profit of $1.23 billion dollars.
Meanwhile, the state where the company is based, California, is dealing with a budget crisis of epic proportions.
However, they do go on to say that international sales were responsible for 44 percent of the revenue, so they are definitely making a killing overseas.
Breaking down the numbers a bit, Apple says that they sold 10.2 million iPod’s which is actually a seven percent decrease in sales from the same quarter a year ago. They sold 2.6 million Mac’s which was a four percent increase and, drum roll please, the company sold 5.2 million iPhone’s in the third quarter alone. How does that stack up against last year in the same quarter?
Oh, only an increase of 626 percent.
That is wild, isn’t it?
Let’s not forget they also have had 1.5 billion applications download from the App Store.
So putting it into perspective, they are a force to be reckoned with, whether you enjoy their products or you absolutely despise them.
How about the fourth quarter?
Apple certainly will not be slowing down either as the fourth quarter is generally the most fruitful because of the holidays. Imagine all of those iPhone 3G S’s and iPod Touch’s flying off the shelves.
It’s going to be crazy.
And for all of the AT&T haters out there, Apple COO Tim Cook stated very bluntly:
“I think it's an excellent relationship and we're very happy with it.”
Right.
