For the sanity of others, hopefully the rumor is true.
So, you and millions of others have been at your wits end about when the new iPhone and 3.0 OS are going to be released. I received plenty of emails asking that very question when I featured some of the key components that Apple will be including in their 3.0 operating system.
The rumor mill this week has produced a date that, low and behold, comes in July. According to sources, the new iPhone will go on sale…
Drum roll, please.
July 17th, 2009.
Whether or not that day encompasses the 3.0 OS release remains to be seen, but you have to imagine the release dates will more than likely fall on the same day.
Now, how concrete that date is depends on how much or how little you believe rumors. Like I’ve said before, Apple is notoriously not consumer friendly about announcing their release dates so it’s hard not to be speculative.
But at the very least this gives the rabid fans a date to circle on the calendar especially if you have been anxiously awaiting the third generation iPhone and the new operating system.
If you are reading this, you probably fall into that category.
Now, I also wanted to include a few features that the new iPhone might be bringing to the table, ones that I failed to mention previously.
Again, a lot of these new features are tentative and come from a source spilling the beans to AppleiPhoneApps. Be sure to check out their website for more of the rumored changes to the iPhone.
Apparently, Apple will begin selling the iPhone in 32GB form, which would be awesome for people who love to have media and music on their phones. This certainly has been a rumor for quite some time so it wouldn’t be surprising if the iPhone’s storage was increased to this capacity.
It also might include two other features that will correct problems that have been driving users (including a few of my friends) wild with fury.
A 1.5 times increase in battery life will ensure that you can use the iPhone on a more continuous basis. This is practical if you never leave anywhere without it, or turn it off. Secondly, rumor has it that it will come with double the RAM and processing power that should make it much, much faster.
Those are both certainly welcomed upgrades for the iPhone addict.
Another feature that may come packaged in July is a 3.2 megapixel camera that will take clearer pictures than the previous one included on-board. This is perfect for the new feature on OS 3.0 that allows users to send pictures and video via MMS.
Pranksters, rejoice.
Lastly, the new iPhone release might feature a built-in compass. This will be convenient for those lost at sea or deserted inside a heavily wooded forest.
Jokes aside, this could be useful if you get lost, especially if you don’t employ GPS in your car, Google Maps isn’t working or you don’t have service on your phone.
There you have it.
Some features and a potential release date to look forward to. Remember, this is all rumor and who knows what Apple will actually do.
And please, don’t blame the messenger.

It would be an awful move by apple if they didn't release another Iphone. With new phones being released like the Palm Pre the Iphone is being more outdated. Especially since the 3g wasn't the biggest upgrade from the 1st gen other then the 3g internet. Plus there has been plenty o
Darn site cutting my post. anyways here's the rest.
Plus the have plenty of hints towards a new Iphone like how AT&T said it was a yearly tradition, Apple buying parts, etc. If Apple didn't release a newer device then the Iphone who be even more outdated. It would be stupid if Apple didn't make a new version.
I am a Iphone fan and plan on buying the new version so I'm not a Iphone hater or anything.
what about the possible price for iPhone OS 3.0? can anyone guess?
@Tony, I believe the price is probably going to stay the same. Keep in the mind the Palm Pre is about to be released so Apple may try to fluctuate their prices for the iPhone accordingly. Chances are that the price will either be dropped a little bit or stay the same.
As always, thanks for reading!
And still no turn by turn gps like the 9.99 phones have- ridiculous, complete toy
will the text messaging screen be able to turn sideways like the email? i am used to a larger key pad.
@Maria, I believe with the Landscape keyboard you should be able to do that. It also will work with mail and notes. Definitely a handy feature!
So what does this mean to people who have the first or second generation iPhones? Will we get all that as well? What if we would want to buy this new phone? How can you if you aren't eligable for a new plan?
apple..... comon!!!!!!
iphone OS 3.0 was supposed to be released march 17th. but no, then its supposed to be released in "the summer". now they pick july 17?!?! why not lune 8th?? its gotta be done by now i havnt seen a new beta 3.0 in a while
so I'm confused..does this mean that the people with the iphone 3g will have to buy the new iphone in order to get the os 3.0 software? or will the iphone 3g be updated?
@selvin, what it means is that if you have an iPhone already, you can operate OS 3.0. You don't need the new 3G S.
Hope that cleared things up for ya. Thanks for reading.

Cleary Aussies are ignorant of the fact that Apple is based in the US, and that the release date of 17th June is in US. I suggest that we wait until about 1pm today and see if Apple is true to their word.
In addition to my earlier post, it was 10:32 17/06/2009 Australian Eastern Time. Looking at the date stamp backs my statement.
