The Pixie being delayed is just one problem Palm faces.
If you haven’t heard the rumors, Palm supposedly had another phone in the works for the holiday’s called the Eos, or the “Pixie”. Even more rumors came from those rumors saying that the Pixie was being placed on hold because they wanted to get a better picture of the current market, aka, waiting to see how well the Pre sold.
Well, it seems that after initially doing great in sales, Pre sales are declining with only 100,000 units being sold in July after 200,000 were purchased in June.
And that trend is likely to continue.
Maybe a price cut could be coming soon?
Anyway, from those rumors now comes yet another rumor that the Pixie is probably not going to be coming out until next year because of the Pre’s performance in the market.
This news is actually pretty bad and not just because the new phone might not be coming out in time for the holiday shopping season. First, it is going to allow Apple to clean up this winter. Had both of these phones been available on the market, Palm may have been able to make a dent. However, the delay of the Pixie also shows a lack of confidence in their products, a lack of funding/profit or both.
Of course that is just speculation but if Palm hopes to compete this winter, with Apple posting absurd numbers in the third quarter and looking to make a killing in the fourth, they need to do something to generate money and new customers.
