And there go Apple’s preventive measures to help keep the iPhone 3GS locked.
Last month, Apple began shipping new; iPhone 3GS’s that supposedly blocked unauthorized code from being run on the phone. Basically, it was trying to prevent hackers from jailbreaking the phone, which, always, inevitably happens.
GeoHot, the guy responsible for unlocking the original iPhone and other various incarnations, has released “blacksn0w” that is the first jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1.2 and baseband 05.11.07.
Apple had apparently attempted to thwart these attempts by changing the iPhone 3GS’s hardware on the product line instead of with a new release. That, according to Apple Insider, is the first time that has ever happened.
Needless to say, it has failed.
