New HTC Touch2 to launch same day as Windows Mobile 6.5

Well, isn’t this a convenient day for a release?

Right after Microsoft announced that Windows Mobile 6.5 would be coming out on October 6th, HTC decided that it didn’t want to be overshadowed by the news and made an announcement of its own.

Don’t get confused, this is not the same thing as the Touch Pro2 that was released for T-Mobile and will be coming out with a hefty purchasing price for Sprint in a few days. This is something different and something fairly exciting.

It will, to begin with, come with Windows Mobile 6.5 and be one of the first phones released under the new moniker ‘Windows Phone’. It also will come with HTC’s TouchFLO overlay. The only problem is, HTC has kept the specs under wraps.

Boy Genius Report thinks that it will more than likely have the same specs of the HTC Mega that they previewed a few weeks ago: WinMo 6.5, Qualcomm 7225 processor @ 528 MHz, 256MB ROM/256MB RAM, 2.8-inch QVGA (240×320), GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA, 3 megapixel fixed-focus camera and gpsOne.

The other mystery besides the specifications is what carrier this thing is headed to.
