New dual-screened, Google Android powered Nook e-reader could doom Kindle

This was up earlier, but Barnes and Noble swiftly took it down.
Gizmodo

This is not the first time that doom for the Kindle has graced these pages, but that was more of a prediction. The announcement that Barnes and Noble made today, might make the demise of the Kindle definite. Before you agree or disagree, please take a look at what transpired.

The Barnes and Noble reader made official today will be running Google Android and the Nook, as it is called, certainly looks to be a valiant replacement for the Kindle as the top e-reader on the market. It might even bring people back who were scared away by Amazon’s tyranny.

Who knows.

However, what the Nook has to offer might just bring e-readers back into our conscious. It has 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, it runs free AT&T 3G, it possesses person to person lending and it boasts 2GB of expandable memory.

It comes in at 7.7 x 4.9 x .5 in dimensions, it has two screens, yes you read that correctly, two screens, the one up top being a 6-inch e-ink that will show you the text from the e-book and the 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD screen at the bottom is featured for navigation.

Man, that was a lot of hyphenation.

While it has that 2GB of internal storage, there is also a microSD expansion slot in case you want to read War and Peace. Now, the best part is probably the sharing, which the Kindle also has. Here’s what Barnes and Noble says, and it looks to be pretty good folks:

Share favorite eBooks with your friends, family, or book club. Most eBooks can be lent for up to 14 days at a time. Just choose the book you want to share, then send it to your friend's reader, cell phone, or computer.

Hopefully it’s that easy.

Barnes and Noble will also be offering a great warranty for $70 that protects your e-reader for two years. Take that Kindle. So this looks like something that will inspire people to get back into the whole e-reader thing again.

So, a hopefully inexpensive e-reader with two screens, Wi-Fi, 3G support, book sharing and it’s not made by Amazon?

Pass the signup sheet.

UPDATE:  No word on the pricing though, and that could be the real deciding factor. Pre-ordering now available if you go here. It's priced at $259, very reasonable and another reason why this thing could be great.

The "Nook" does run on Android. Look at the spec link below:
