How different will the Storm 2 be?.
Remember when BlackBerry last attempted a smartphone that had a touch screen? For those of you that purchased the Storm, apologies are probably not good enough. Both the SurePress screen and the phone were plagued with bugs and performance issues that doomed it from the start.
It’s safe to say a lot of people probably returned it in favor of the iPhone.
Not to be deterred from thrusting themselves into the world of touch phones, rumors have been swirling about the impending reincarnation of the Storm, aptly named, the Storm 2.
With the recent news about the BlackBerry Onyx, and today’s release of the BlackBerry Tour you would think that RIM would be curbing their smartphone releases a little bit.
Wrong.
Engadget reported that the Storm 2 might have been released as early as last month and no later than the end of July and while we still haven’t seen it roll into stores, Engadget by way of The Boy Genius Report have gotten their hands on the Storm 2’s specifications.
First and foremost, the BlackBerry 9550, which they think is actually the Storm 2, should be released sometime this year on Verizon. Yeah, yeah, no exact date, but they may have to roll something out soon, an announcement or the phone, depending on how good or bad the Tour does.
Alright, alright, on to the unconfirmed details.
So the big news is that the phone will include Wi-Fi which apparently is witchcraft in China. Everywhere else it has become second nature when using mobile products on-the-go.
It features a 360x480 screen resolution and the now standard 3.2 megapixel camera. It also will be running on BlackBerry OS 5.0 which has yet to be released.
Last but not least, as we come full circle, it will feature a SurePress touch screen that hopefully will surpass the old Storm’s by a mile. Again, if you used it before, you know how hard it was to not only become acclimated with their touch screen, but how lethargic and choppy the interface was.
Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and have brewed up something that is worthy of having the BlackBerry name.
