In quite an exciting development, Netflix and Sony have announced a partnership that will bring Netflix streaming to the Playstation 3. It’s going to launch next month and here is what Sony’s official blog had to say:
We’re excited to announce today that Netflix and Sony have partnered to bring you thousands of movies and TV episodes streamed instantly from Netflix to your TV via your PS3 system at no extra charge. When the application launches next month, you’ll be able to access and watch thousands of Netflix choices directly through the XMB. We think that the nearly nine million PS3 enthusiasts and 11.1 million Netflix members in the U.S. will make quite a match.
That is certainly awesome news for PS3 owners who are also Netflix users. And if you aren’t a Netflix user yet and you have a PS3, this will probably get you to jump on the bandwagon. The cost is going to be the same as the Xbox 360 version of Netflix; however, you will activate the service using an instant streaming blu-ray disc.
So head over to Netflix to pre-order one of those discs, you know they are going to be flying off the shelves.
The press release in its entirety is here.
