Motorola Droid Android 2.1 update delayed

If Matt is correct, the Droid update won't come out this week.

This is such sad news for Motorola Droid owners you might go through a box of tissues or boxes and boxes of Rogaine after tearing your hair out in frustration.

On Monday, things were looking great for the Droid and Google. The handset was going to be getting Android 2.1 sometime this week which included a bunch of awesome new features, multitouch being one of them. Here’s what Motorola said on Facebook Monday:

Hi all-- we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We're happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later ...this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support.

Well, apparently someone down the line screwed up big time because that update, according to a post on Motorola’s support forums, will not be rolled out this week. The information was prematurely released according to a forums manager and subsequently all links to the update on Motorola’s official pages have been pulled.

Wow.

Face, palm.

So, if this is true, all of you Droid owners in San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area are going to have to wait for multitouch and Android 2.1. And the good old forums manager mentioned nothing about when that might be.

For those of you here in San Francisco who still want one, head here for the nearest place to pick one up.

What a crock. I'm going to wait a few months until my contract expires with Verizon so I can switch to T-Mobile and get the Nexus One. The latter has cheaper service anyway.
