If you believe the rumors, Firefox potentially might be headed to the Playstation 3.

Playstation Insider via Engadget, is reporting through a credible tipster that Sony is currently in talks with Mozilla about bringing the browser onboard the console. Of course, there is nothing concrete other than that fact.

So take the rumor as you will.

It would however be nice to have a web browser on the PS3 that isn’t a complete letdown and Firefox would definitely be a step in the right direction in accomplishing that. It also would give it some leverage over the other systems in the browser department.

However, how many of you actually surf the web using your console?

It’s a tough call if this is going to make a splash let alone ever materialize. We’ll see.

sorry but this article is completely false. It's a rumor and nothing more. It is also a rumor that can be easily shot down....

Mozilla's Firefox is an open-source free to use unrestricted browser.

If Sony wanted to incorporate the arguably "BEST" free (if not all) browser available aka FireFox, then Sony would be able to. there is no need to be "in talks" with Mozilla.

There u go, Rumor Debunked. Now do keep in mind that just bcuz i shot down a rumor does **NOT** mean that we will never see FireFox on the PS3 (PS3 OS that is). they may incorporate it in a future FW update. . . . you all will just have to wait and see. . . . do expect quite a bit of surprises as we wrap up the year and throughout 2010. . . . expect BIG things in 2010!

errr....why wouldnt Sony need to talk with Mozilla.

Oh thats right because Sony just magically knows how to code and port the Mozilla coded and created browser to the PS3.

Think before you speak. Of course Sony would want to talk with Mozilla, how else can they get the knowledge needed to make the browser PS3 compatible.

    @ WOLF

Your statements ignores the fact that there are terms and conditions associated with using Firefox. You know, when you install the thing there is a little button at the bottom of a long body of text called a User Agreement. Freeware and Shareware etcetera tend to be restricted for personal or non-profit use. Sony would definitely profit from using code Mozilla developed. Also Firefox is trademarked name, you can't use it to make money without AGREEing to the terms of use, aka CONTRACT. Take a T&C class. ;)

I would definitely use my browser more if I could use firefox. Sonys is such a chore to use.

I would surf the net using my PS3 a lot more if the browser could actually do what even IE6 can do.
