iPod credited with saving girl's life during lightning strike

WikimediaOK, I take it back. Maybe our gadgets don't want to kill us after all.

Take the case of Sophie Frost of Britain, and her loyal iPod.

Caught outside during a violent thunderstorm recently, 14-year-old Frost took shelter under a tree, which turned out to a be fine lightning rod. Instead of making a full trip through her body, however, the current took a detour through the iPod headphones wrapped around her neck.

Sophie had a few burns, particularly severe where the headphone wires were touching her skin, and the new nickname of  "Sparky." The tragically young iPod, however, is fried.
