iPhone 3G S users run into activation problems on launch day

Refrain from smashing this if you were affected.

June 19th was supposed to be a day of celebration for iPhone users; instead it might drive some to the brink of insanity.

InformationWeek is reporting that some people trying to activate their iPhone 3G S are being met with message that basically says in so many words that Apple is having major difficulties handling the probable millions of people trying to activate their new phone.

The message states:

Your activation requires additional time to complete. Due to the current volumes, it may take up to 48 hours to resolve your issue.

Brutal.

If you bought an iPhone 3G last year you might have also run into the same problem.

Apple had tried to change their release approach this year by unveiling OS 3.0 before the 3G S was released instead of trying to lump them all together like they did with the 3G, OS 2.0 and MobileMe.

While it might just be a problem with server speed, it might be time for Apple to start thinking about replacing iTunes as the source for phone activation.

So what does this mean?

Well, you might have to sit there and look at your new iPhone 3G S in agony for the next two days while the calamity starts to tail off.

Obviously if you camped out with a tent and thermos handy and this is happening to you, you probably have grown a full head of gray hair in a matter of hours. If you were smart and staggered your order in preparation for this, you are probably sitting there emitting a cackle symbolic of a witch at others misfortunes.

Whatever the case may be, there is still no word on how many customers were affected by this message but it’s safe to say it probably is less than last year when Apple came close to mutiny amongst customers.

So to those who were touched by this awful tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with you as you embark on a one to two day journey of madness and delusion.

I had a wonderful experience at my AT&T Store
in Delray Beach,Fl. I pre-ordered my phone and picked it up today. by 7:05 a.m. I was in the store getting my phone activated. It was painless proceedure! By 7:40 I was out the door with my new phone.

The phone is fabulous! Of course, this is my first iPhone, so I just put it aside for the evening after playing all day! I jumped ship at Sprint and I am so pleased with AT & T sales, service and telephone reception. Its Great!

Well I pre-ordered my phone and took the chance on having it delivered to my home.Unfortunately I happened to work and they delivered the phone Fri and no one was home and it had to be signed for so they couldn't leave it on my porch. Something told me to go home for lunch and see if the UPS came by early, well he did and left a note stating a redeliver will be done on Mon. So I called the UPS and the lady was really nice and gave me he's next few stops so that I could catchup with him in which I was able to. After all that, I updated my iTunes and BAME!! it deleted everything. Had to contact C/S to get that issue resolved and by the time everything was all said and done I and tried to activate my phone I get the wonderful message stating it's going to take 24-48 hours to activate my phone. So I ended up having to carry both of my phones around just in case I would be able to activate. Today is Mon and I'm still not activated so whenI get home from work, I'm calling Apple!!!!!!!!
