Big news on Google’s new phone the Nexus One today, and while not groundbreaking, it sheds some more light on the mysterious device.

Today, an internal T-Mobile memo was leaked to BGR and while completely faint, translated, it says this:

Google, with support from T-Mobile, is scheduled to launch a new Android device in early January. The Google Android phone will be sold directly by Google via the Web.

Support for the device including troubleshooting and exchanges will be managed by Google and HTC. T-Mobile will offer service support including billing, coverage, features, and rate plans. Additional details Streamline content regarding the launch of Google’s Android phone will be coming in early January.

So first, the old stuff.

It appears as though the early January release date is happening, although it doesn't specifically mention the 5th, and T-Mobile will be “supporting” the phone.

No word if it's still going to be invitation only sales at first either.

Now, the new stuff.

Google will be selling it directly online and support for the Nexus One is going to be handled by Google and HTC which is a little bit strange but take it with a grain of salt. The direct sale to consumers is a pretty curious move by Google so it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
