This should come as a surprise to no one, especially those of us who use AT&T.
iPhone owners, you listening?
Consumer Reports, which is a very reliable publication as far as stuff like this goes, has released a report which essentially says that AT&T is a horrible service and that its customers agree. Yes, AT&T ranks last in customer satisfaction when stacked against the other big three, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint.
No surprise there really.
The evidence comes from over 50,000 customers that were surveyed in 26 cities in the United States. In 19 of those cities, AT&T was rated the absolute worst. In more detail from Apple Insider:
Overall, AT&T came in fourth place with a total score of 66. It ranked worst in voice service, and average for messaging and Web/e-mail. Customer service on the phone and via Web ranked poorly, as did staff knowledge and whether the customer's issue was resolved.
As you can see, AT&T has some problems.
The other three placed like this: Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint.
So, now the question remains, does credible information like this put Apple in a position to start offering the iPhone on another service?
Next year, that question will certainly be answered, but for now, iPhone owners and others who use AT&T are just going to have to live with fourth place.

I'll be the first to admit that Verizon has the best wireless coverage and least calls dropped, but I find it hard to believe T-Mobile is pushing out more coverage and less dropped calls. I have had Cingular/AT&T for what is going on six years now. I came over from Verizon because of the handsets (at the time, Verizon intentionally crippled their phones, disabling things like Bluetooth data transfer), so I said heck with that. AT&T was great when I lived in the New Haven CT area, and works great for me in and around Boston. Don't get me wrong, I think AT&T should be neck and neck with Verizon with all the money they are banking from the $80+/month BlackBerry and iPhone plans, but I don't agree that they are the worst.. At least in the Northeast region.
