AT&T promises better service in San Francisco and New York

In a world of surprising headlines, Tiger Woods anyone, this one is probably the least surprising of all.

Why?

It’s not often that the words AT&T and better service are anywhere close to each other, especially here in the Bay Area but this has been a long time coming. I mean, AT&T was just rated dead last in a consumer survey amongst its competitors and only a few days ago they rolled out an iPhone app designed to allow customers to point out bad service spots.

So today, when AT&T honcho Ralph de la Vega stated that New York and San Francisco need improved service, no one had a heart attack, no one collapsed, no one gasped. He was even harsher on his own company saying that New York and SF’s Financial District are:

Performing at levels below our standards.

Ralph de la Vega, ladies and gentlemen. Pointing out the painfully obvious.

So hopefully something gets done here and this isn’t just fluff. De la Vega confirms that there is indeed work being done to fix the issues at hand and that users in these areas are going to see significant progress but of course, there was no timetable given and there wasn’t even any elaboration as to why these problems had not been previously addressed.

Oh, that’s right. It’s because AT&T is rated dead last out of the top four mobile carriers.

Silly me.
