An 8GB model could be out soon.
The death of the iPhone 3G looks like it has arrived, with a new model of the 3GS taking its place. It definitely makes a lot of sense, but may anger people who recently decided to get a 3G for $100.
According to a photo at the Boy Genius Report, a service provider in Canada called Rogers has launched the iPhone 3GS in 8GB form. From the looks of things, this appears to be very, very legit and also very, very feasible given the lifespan of the iPhone 3G.
Rogers also goes on to state that they will be reducing their 3G inventory which means that it will eventually be phased out in favor of the 3GS 8GB. Of course there is absolutely no pricing listed in the internal memo which is frustrating to say the least.
The pricing should definitely be competitive and reasonable potentially in the $99 to $150 range if Apple is serious about replacing the 3G completely. It could also lure a ton of people in the iPhone fold, not like there aren’t enough customers already.
This is a totally unconfirmed rumor but the more you think about it, the more it makes sense.
So, look for this to potentially be announced in the fall along with the new iPods and potentially the almost mythical Apple tablet that has people foaming at the mouth.
