Yes, San Francisco, it’s iPad Day here in the city and if you missed the entire run down I had going, you can find all the info you need here. Let’s move on to the contract plans and the pricing of the different devices.
First off, Verizon has no part in the iPad. No truth to that rumor whatsoever.
Secondly, there are no contracts.
Ok, let’s get down to it.
Here’s what Steve Jobs had to say:
Now what does it cost for the data plans? Well in the US carriers charge about $60 a month. We have a real breakthrough. Two awesome plans for iPad owners. The first one gives you 250MB of data a month for $14.99.
There is also an unlimited plan for only $29.99 which comes with a breakthrough deal with AT&T. Before you moan and groan about your iPhone service and what not, hold your horses.
There are no contracts remember?
So you can break it off any time. Or you can just use Wi-Fi and there are plenty of places for that here in San Francisco, aren’t there?
The pricing of the iPad is actually quite nice with the starting price being $499 for the 16GB model without 3G. A 32GB model will be $599, 64GB is $799. If you need 3G, well, let’s let Steve tell you:
3G models cost an extra $130. $629, 729, and 829 with 3G.
So if you want nothing to do with a service provider, avoid the 3G models.
Man, seriously, when he first said AT&T I gasped.
I’ll be posting updates here as I get them, throughout the day.
