Apple bans third largest App Store developer

Apple still has more work to do in the App Store.

With Apple’s recent App Store track record, this is a little bit hard to fathom. They are finally getting rid of close to a thousand bad applications that have overshadowed a lot of the great apps available for the iPhone.

The reason the news is hard to swallow is because Apple has approved ridiculous applications while at the same time, rejecting great ones. Finally, they are making a step in the right direction.

According to Mobile Crunch, Apple has finally banned/revoked the license of one of the App Store’s most prolific developers, Khalid Shaikh, the founder of Perfect Acumen. If you aren’t familiar with him and his company, they are the third largest developer for the iPhone with 943 applications released to date.

And what are the names of some of those apps? Here is a small sampling of what has been pulled from the App Store:

iSoaperStarsUpdates, which brings you news on soap opera stars.

Top Sexy Ladies – Camilla Belle and a number of other Top Sexy Lady applications.

iMiss world updates, which gives you updates on Miss World.

iArrow, which explores the world of archery and bow hunting.

And here is the absolute best one, Pirates Style. Read that one on your own.

That is just a few and they cost $5. Is this for real? Apple actually accepted these applications? They actually denied something as great as Google Voice and accepted garbage like this?

It is unreal.

They really need to rethink the application approval process so shoddy developers like this aren’t able to release horrible applications that have little to no purpose other than to enrich the developer. You’d have to imagine that this won’t be the only sweep they do trying to get rid of spam apps.

Are they just now realizing that these slip through the cracks? How is this possible when these are, again, from the third most popular developer?

Does this make sense to anybody?

Please, go look at some of the other apps that they had available.

These guys are no better than spammers. They completely dilute the quality of the App Store. Apple really needs to get their head out of their you-know-where and make some changes so that other two-bit developers can’t climb the ladder like this.

I think you miss the whole point of Apple implementing an approval process for applications. They don't judge which applications are good - they judge whether or not an application potentially conflicts with Apple's business objectives.

The "goodness" of an application is a totally subjective judgement. Some people probably thought these applications were great, but others such as your self thought they were bad.

Apple was not worried that Google Voice wasn't any good. If anything they thought it was too good. The reason why they banned it is because they feared that Google Voice was a competitive threat.

This is why I won't use an iPhone - I don't want to give Apple such monopolistic power to decide which applications I can and can't use.

A really good move by Apple! It´s becoming really hard to find the usefull apps in the store with all this really stupid and nonsense apps all over the AppStore. Hope they continue to filter out this bunch of trash applications from the store.

I won't use an iPhone either. What I have is much better.

The iPhone is for sheep that will follow whichever buzz bleats loudest (for the most part kids & students who shouldn't be able to afford the overpriced gadget).
