Google today added Gmail phone calls to its roster of features on the 6 year old emailing platform, The option supports placing phone calls to conventional phone numbers either from existing contacts or to a new number.
In order to use the phone service it requires Linux, Mac and Windows plugin that handles AV chat, Calls to the U.S. And Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates. International calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan-and many more countries-for $0.02 per minute.
The service also integrates with Google Voice and will show that number on your caller ID as well as take calls sent to the same number. Prepare to see Google Phone booth's in airports, colleges and universities in the coming weeks as Google plans to show off the service to public.
