Apple unveiled their new iPad tablet this morning and it is causing all sorts of waves on the Internet.

The iPad will feature a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 display and 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB capacities. The iPad will contain a custom
1 GHz "Apple A4" chip and  weigh in at 1.5 pounds. The iPad is a half-inch  thin. The iPad will be priced at $499, $599, and $699 for the varying capacity models without 3G, and $626, $729, and $829 with 3G. Wi-Fi only models are scheduled to ship in 60 days, with 3G-capable model shipping in 90 days.

Jeff Grossman, an engineer in Burbank, says that the tablet doesn't live up to his expectations. "It is nothing but a bloated iPod Touch!" he angrily says. Elena Lopez, a Los Angeles school teacher and Apple fanatic agrees.

"I don't see the purpose of the iPad. It's too big to fit in your pocket and too small to watch media on for hours. I could easily wach everything on my Macbook," she exclaims. But not everbody in Los Angeles agrees.

"Who care's if it's not revolultionary," Sam Spuccia, a graphic designer in Downtown Los Angeles says. "It's Apple and that's all that matters." Mr. Spuccia, by the way, owns two Macbooks, three iPods, two iPod Touch devices, and an iPhone. Manuel Navarro, a local student, agrees with him.

"Apple can take anything and turn it into magic," Mr. Navarro says. He notes that there were previous mp3 and portable video players before Apple made them, but they didn't get noticed. "The tablet computer has been around for years and hasn't been successful. Now that Apple made one, you can bet it will be the new in thing."

I don't feel the ipad lived up to the hype, but that's not apple's problem. The new product was always going to be a hybrid between the touch and the tablet, so what's the deal? They're a truly innovative company and I don't know any new tech releases which spark so much discussion, enthusiam or have such a diehard fanbase around at the moment. My touch is too small to watch movies on, this seems perfect for me and I will buy one when available. The price is massively competative, can you imagine Microsoft ( what happened to them,by the way? ) releasing anything without bug fixes and hundreds of patches and viruses the next day for less than megabucks. One criticism, if this is meant to be a replacement for the portable laptop user, why oh why no USB port! It implies you need a mac in the first place to get the most out of it, otherwise no backup possible? Look forward to second gen already which shouldn't be the case. Jobs rocks, even in poloneck.

Nothing special. But its good news for all the apple fans.

I personally could care less about it, and I am a mac owner

There's nothing new about this Ipad thing... Its just a huge Iphone that's going to be awkward to use. Might as well just buy an actual laptop!
