So, as many people are aware, Apple revealed its long rumored tablet computer, the iPad, last Wednesday. What followed was a media frenzy of "I told you so!"s and various other remarks, followed almost immediately by a ton of, "Wait...what?"s. Let's take a closer look at this newest piece of technology.
From the very start of the rumors surrounding Apple's tablet, people had extremely high expectations for this hardware. Apple has been known for revolutionizing whatever market it decides to delve into. MP3 players? Check. People love their iPods. Cell Phones? Check. Never seen so much support for one phone as we have the iPhone. So it came as a surprise to many when it was revealed that the iPad was little more than an over-sized iPhone or iPod Touch.
Initial reactions were very grim, especially considering the excitement that had been emanating from all presenters. So much skepticism was felt by the general masses that some even believed it to be a joke. But as more and more details leaked out about the hardware, people began to regain faith in Apple.
Specifications
The iPad itself looks simple enough, and the interface will be immediately familiar to users of the iPhone and iPod Touch, with many of the same buttons and screens. It is about 9.5 inches tall, and about 7.5 inches wide, when being used in its native portrait mode. The standard WiFi version is 1.5 pounds, while 3GS service adds .1 pounds to it, bringing it to 1.6 pounds, which is surprisingly light for such a sturdy piece of hardware. The processor, the heart of any computer, runs at a solid 1 Gigahertz, with a standard of 16 Gigabytes of hard drive space, upgradeable to 64 Gigabytes.
All in all, it seems a pretty decent piece of technology, though only time will tell if it will surpass any of the current tablet PCs running Windows on the market today. It seems an improvement over its iPhone and iPod Touch predecessors, but, once again, only time will tell.

So true.
Ahh sir, I applaud your efforts.
Alas, I cannot read.
No, Just kidding.
Great article.
Good article. I find the iPad, only an opinion here, useless. Another product from Apple that looks like the rest to get you to spend your money.
brutha' be spakin da truth up in hurr, datz awl i gatta sai
Meh I think they could have come up with a better name for it.. when I think pad.. all I think of is..well >.> being female and all.. it's no fun.
The iPad doesn't support flash (I lol'd when I heard them say "best way to browse the web") and the $500 price tag is only for the core no 3g, 16gig model. Everything else sends the price through the roof <.<
Microsoft tablet PCs have actual OS's on them, this is just a glorified iPod touch, Microsoft's tablet PCs are laptops with touch screens, which makes them quite a bit more powerful and (unlike any apple products) upgradeable.
The only plus sides to this as compared to a regular tablet PC are weight and multitouch, but that can be easily fixed.
I give it a 1 out of 10.
Doesn't do multitasking, Doesn't run OSX...its crap....HP will get it right.
Yo, Nate. Mac says the reason they don't support flash is cause it's buggy, and that when a mac crashes, it's usually 'cause of flash. Now, why that would stop 'em from fixing that issue from flash, I dunno.
That looks super spiffy ^-^
