Nike releases new SportBand and adds features for runners

Nike+ SportBand. Available July 15 in grey, dark grey and black.

Nike has released their new Nike+ SportBand and wow, did they deliver. It’s now even easier for runners to stay on top of their workout and track goals along with progress markers. The new band allows runners to get real-time performance feedback on their distance, pace, time and calories burned with just a glance at their wrist. This is, of course, part of their ongoing partnership with iPod. Each runner can listen to music and hear their stats through their iPod; however, this can also work even if you don’t own an iPod. All you have to do is look down at the band and it’s all there.

They’re pretty stylish looking too. Available in grey, dark grey and black, each band has a different color interior band and the screen has even been optimized to increase visibility. Not bad for $59.

Nike has also made improvements to the virtual side of this by merging two websites, nikeplus.com and nikerunning.com, to make it easier for runners to keep everything in one place. Users can now personalize their Nike homepage by adding goals, tracking progress, and sending updates to their Twitter or Facebook page. This also goes along with the new networking side of the Nike website. You can now add friends, challenge each other, and help each other out.

The new Nike+ SportBand will be available in the U.S. on July 15 along with the launch of a new mobile site for iPhone users.
