Word Warp - A great way to fill time on the iPhone

Word Warp is a game from MobilityWare written for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  It works very similar to Boggle® and other word jumble games.  You have two minutes to build as many valid words as you can out of the given six letters, and you score points for every word you create.  If you can make at least one word using all six letters, all your points will rollover into the next round.  You can chain as many games as possible together to get the highest score possible.  MobilityWare offers a fully functional, ad-supported version for free, and a paid version for $0.99 sans ads.

I’ve had this game on my first generation iPhone for about a month and half, and I really enjoy it.  Its sheer simplicity combined with its quick playability makes it great to play when I have a few minutes of downtime.  The two-minute game times make it really easy to pick up and put back down again, but that’s not say Word Warp isn’t addicting.  There have been many occasions in which I intended to only play a game or two, and ended going for 15 or 20 minutes.

In the free version, Word Warp uses AdMob to display full-screen ads between games.  They are completely unobtrusive and very short, and that’s something I really appreciate. I am currently using the free version, but I intend to buy the paid version to support the developer.

The only criticism I can find with this game is the lack of visual affects.  Most iPhone and iPod touch games focus very heavily on the user interface, but the interface on Word Warp feels unpolished.  The game is still very enjoyable, but some more attention to visual affects would have been nice.

Overall, I’d say this is a game you should definitely try.  Its quick and easy play, and more importantly, its free!  Whether you love word jumble games or have never played one, I think this is a game that anyone can enjoy.
