Consumers who enjoy a handful of sprouts on their salads or sandwiches need to know about a recall that has just been expanded. You may have heard that some packages of alfalfa sprouts from Specialty Farms were recalled earlier this week and now the company has added more specific products to the list of recalled sprouts. It has been determined that these sprouts may have been contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.
The recalled products are:
Specialty Farms Organic Alfalfa Sprouts Blend upc 509800108
Specialty Farms Organic Sprout Salad upc 8192400024
They have a best if sold by date of 8/3/2010.

Natures Promise Organic Alfalfa Sprouts (4 oz) upc 8826704741
Natures Promise Organic Alfalfa Sprouts (8 oz) upc 8826704102
Natures Promise Organic Zesty Sprouts (4 oz) upc 8826703903
They have a best if sold by date of 8/1/2010.
Listeria is very serious for women who are pregnant as it is known to cause miscarriage and stillbirth. It can also pose complications for children, the elderly and anyone with a compromised immune system. Symptoms of this illness include headache, fever, abdominal pain, stiffness, vomiting and diarrhea. Anyone who has consumed these recalled products and is experiencing symptoms of Listeria should consult a health care professional.
The recalled sprouts were shipped to and distributed in the following states; CT, NH, MA, ME, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT.
