Frugal TV: Hulu.com delivers free entertainment right to your laptop

If you’ve taken Suze Orman’s advice from last week’s Oprah and snipped your entertainment budget in half, including your cable, then never fear, Hulu.com is here to save you from boredom.  Their mission: “to help people find and enjoy the world’s premium video content when, where and how they want it.”

In a nutshell, Hulu is an online service that allows you to watch your favorite TV shows, movies, clips and trailers right from you home computer or laptop. Most importantly, this service is made free and legal through an advertising supported model.  Hulu has acquired the rights to distribute its videos from companies such as, but not limited to, Showtime, NBC, ABC/Disney, Fox, PBS, MTV, Universal and MGM.  The commercial breaks only last 15 seconds, and sometimes you’re given the choice to watch one longer commercial at the start of a program instead.

Personal favorites include: The Office, 30 Rock, Dead Like Me, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Philanthropist, Royal Pains and Warehouse 13.  Subscribe to your favorite shows, and you’ll receive an email alert when new episodes are added to your queue.  No software download is required, only a Flash 9.0 enabled computer and Internet service.  You can even clip portions of a video to share with friends on networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, StumbleUpon and Twitter.  Best of all, if you can’t find your show on Hulu, their search engine will access the 35 other websites in their entertainment network to find what you’re looking for.

Just because you’re broke, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good laugh or have a cathartic cry.  So downsize that cable bill, and give Hulu.com a try.

Hulu is alright but they dont have a lot of content. I always use ovguide cause they have more than just a limited selection of tv shows and movies.
