Many families limit their time at the some of the great museums in Milwaukee because of the expense just to get in. After all, a single entry can sometimes run between $10 to $25, depending on the museum. Sometimes, the entry fee is even separate from the individual exhibits, pushing the total even higher.
However, a cost-effective way to visit the museums in town is to purchase a family membership. Museum memberships are sometimes tax deductible, offering yet another benefit for families, and can often save money even with just one visit a year.
A family membership (two adults and children) is $75. This can be a huge savings for families, especially because membership includes unlimited access to feature exhibitions. Features can often cost an additional $14 alone, so this is a major benefit. Membership includes free admission to gallery talks, which are short sessions hosted by an artist or museum professional. Museum members in general get first notice on new exhibits and events, a ten percent discount on both the museum store and café, and a year subscription to their quarterly magazine. Reduced costs on classes and parking passes are yet two more benefits of a membership.
Families can purchase a "pathfinder" membership, which costs for $70 per year. Member benefits include free admission to the Milwaukee Public Museum and more than 300 other museums worldwide, discounts to view IMAX or planetarium shows, discounted parking, and ten percent off the museum gift shops and café. The museum also offers great family activities, such as their Halloween Hauntings night. Members get a newsletter and special pricing for camps and lectures.
A year membership costs $85 for a family of four, and includes invites to special classes and events. Betty Brinn members also get a ten percent discount at the gift shop, a newsletter subscription, and free admission to 150 other children's museums nationwide.
Family memberships start at $75, and include a newsletter, discount on programs and events at the museum, and free admission to more than 250 science centers and museums worldwide. Members also get free deck tours of the Denis Sullivan ship, ten percent off the gift shop and café, and discounted parking.

I have a friend from Chicago who is actually a member of the Milwaukee Art Museum. (Consequently I get to go for free a lot.) It certainly is a place you can visit many times a year and be entertained afresh each time. Smart move get a family membership, all right!
How nice of your friend to take you to the art museum for free! I was surprised at how reasonable the museum memberships were. Glad you are taking advantage of it.
