The Light Keeper Pro advertises itself to be "The Complete Tool for Fixing Light Sets & Pre-Lit Trees...Fast & Easy" in just three simple steps: plug, click and fix. Let's see how well it lives up to that claim.

Review

The Light Keeper Pro actually can do what it advertises. However, it may not happen in the three advertised steps, but that's o.k. because there is more you can do with this kit. The instructions explain that many holiday light failures are due to "shunt" failures, which are the electric wire analogies to clogged pipes.  The Pro's Quick Fix Trigger function clears these "blockages" allowing the circuit to complete and the lights to come back on. In order to accomplish this you must plug the light set into a socket and remove the first light bulb from the string. You then plug the empty bulb socket into a receptacle on the gun-shaped Light Keeper Pro and pulse the trigger up to twenty times until the lights turn on.  If, in fact, the failure is due to a shunt problem, this method will repair the lights quickly and easily.

If the lights do not turn on, you must use the Pro's second function - the Audible Voltage Detector. With this method you push a button on top of the gun while touching the Pro's tip to each side of a bulb in succession down a string. There should be a continuous beeping sound as you do this. When you find a section that doesn't beep, you replace the nearest bulb. If the strand still does not light, you continue the process looking for any more bad bulbs to replace. This method is a bit slower, but it is still very simple and you're not just guessing where the bad bulbs are located.

The light Keeper Pro has two other helpful functions which you will use when replacing bulbs. It has a Dual Bulb Puller near its tip for different kinds of strands, and it has a Bulb and Fuse Tester. The former is helpful in pulling off hard to remove bulbs and the later is for testing those bulbs to see if they will still light.

The kit comes with five replacement bulbs (without sockets), two clear and three colored.  It also has a storage compartment in the handle for bulbs and fuses.  The Light Keeper Pro is powered by three replaceable button cell batteries.

Summary                                                                                                                                                                          The Light Keeper Pro does help you fix your holiday lights. If you have a shunt problem, it's definitely quick and easy. If you have a bulb problem, it's a little slower but still a great tool. It's well designed and the directions are simple to follow. If you can find it for less than $25, it's a bargain you will want to take advantage of. Even at $25, it pays for itself quickly when you consider the cost of throwing out and replacing your broken strands over time.
