Democrats sacrificing national security for political expediency

 

From arbitrarily shutting down the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to the release of Top Secret C.I.A. documents, President Obama and his Democrat comrades on Capitol Hill have demonstrated that they will go to any lengths in their efforts to improve their political standing, even at the expense of the nation's security.

So it should come as no surprise, that as Obama's approval ratings start to nosedive and Nancy Pelosi looks for political cover due to her accusations against the C.I.A., we see national security once again sacrificed on the altar of political preservation.

First, we have the announcement by Attorney General Eric Holder that he is considering the appointment of criminal prosecutors to investigate the Bush administration's interrogation practices. His office will make a determination on this in the next few weeks. 

But, didn't the Obama administration already say that they considered it unfair to prosecute any official who acted in good faith based on legal guidance from the Justice Department? If this is true, why is the Attorney General still considering it? And why wait several weeks to make a decision? Could it be that Obama needs another "blame Bush" distraction over the next few weeks in an attempt to pump up his popularity?

When you consider that he is working to see his global warming and national healthcare agendas advanced by a Congress that has demonstrated less enthusiasm for these issues than they held when his approval ratings were much higher, throwing the C.I.A. under the bus could be the perfect distraction for the fledgling president. It should also help take the focus off of his failing economic policies.

But attacking the C.I.A. doesn't begin nor end with President Obama and his Attorney General. When the inexperienced C.I.A. Director, Leon Panetta briefed Congress about a still classified intelligence program on June 24, Democrats in Congress began the call for investigating former Vice President, Dick Cheney for concealing certain covert operations from the Congress.

There can be no doubt that this move is meant to provide cover for Speaker-of-the-House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Ever since Pelosi accused the C.I.A. of being dishonest a few months ago, she has been under increasing pressure to prove her case. Unfortunately for her, witnesses and written documentation have indicated that it is actually she who is lying, and it was beginning to wear on her ability to "lead" the House.

Thanks to the efforts of people like Senator Dianne Feinstein of California (a coincidence, I'm sure) and the #2 Democrat in the Senate, Dick Durbin of Obama's home state of Illinois (another coincidence, I bet), Nancy gets to hide behind another "blame Bush" distraction that will keep her from needing to back up her accusations. This will free her up to push Obama's extreme plans for healthcare and the environment through the House of Representatives. Of course, it's possible that the C.I.A. will suffer irreparable damage, but that's a small price to pay for saving her political backside.

During the election season leading up to November 2008, Democrats made no secret of their distain for President Bush's policies regarding the war on terror, but I don't think voters would have ever expected them to sacrifice America's national security in the name of political expediency...

...but there can be no doubt that they are all too willing to do so.
